St Paul's Catholic Primary School Newsletter 2022 Term 2, Week 2
Principal's Message
Good afternoon St Paul’s Families,
Welcome back to Term 2 and an extra special welcome to our new students and their families. We are well and truly into the swing of things already having liturgies, assemblies and excursions.
As we begin the term, I thought it would be a good time to let you know of the changes we have been able to make with the easing of COVID restrictions. Whilst some of the public restrictions have been lifted, as a school, we are still required to abide by some additional restrictions.
Parents are welcome to attend all assemblies and until further notice, these will take place in the outdoor assembly area. Friday assemblies (award recipients) will be every fortnight (Week 2, 4, 6, 8, 10) and parents are welcome to attend. Awards will be distributed and classes will rotate a presentation of their learning and share a performance item. Our Monday assemblies, which are not usually attended by parents, will be held every Monday to remind students of our 3Bs, our MJR focus and to sing the National Anthem and the Spirit of St Paul’s.
Our school board has welcomed three new members, Costi Buccella, Tony Rowland and Alicia Sherwood and we are thrilled to have their expertise to work with. We thank outgoing board member Brendan Knox for his work, wisdom and guidance over the last three years.
We are moving into the tender stage of the redevelopment of our toilet block and we are very excited about how this redevelopment will enhance the wellbeing of our school. We all know that ‘toilet talk’ can be a negative thing but in all honesty, research has demonstrated strong links between school toilets and student wellbeing.
It has been so lovely seeing everyone at our Easter Liturgy and our long-awaited Welcome to 2022 Disco -if I have not seen you yet this year, please drop in and say hello. We look forward to another busy term so please keep an eye on the newsletter and calendar for important dates.
PLEASE NOTE - Athletics Carnival change of date to Friday, June 3rd.
May the spirit of Jesus fill your hearts.
Ms Megan Evans

SCHOOL FEE INVOICES
Dear St Paul’s families,
School Fee Invoices were emailed to families in week 5 of Term 1. We have identified a technical glitch which means some families did not receive their invoices (the email has triggered a security response to certain email accounts and therefore has not been delivered to email inboxes).
If you have not received your invoice for School Fees, please contact Finance at finance.stpauls@nt.catholic.edu.au
Thank you to all those who have already paid or have a payment plan in place.
When paying fees please ensure you include a reference for what the payment is for, either 'School Fees', 'OSHC Fees' or 'ELC fees' in the name.
Thank you,
St Paul’s Finance Team

Green thumbs needed!
The children in the Early Learning Centre have been talking about gardening and how things grow, what they need to grow successfully and how we can do it here. We have plans to restart our vegetable garden if you have any suggestions on what fruit, vegetables or if you have cuttings that grow well in this tropical environment please share with us. Last year we had a banana tree cutting donated which is growing very well in the front.
We have also moved the compost bin into the garden for us to disposed of our scraps to help us to make some new healthy soil for the vegetable garden.
Some things that the children discussed about being safe for the Compost bin:
- Grass clippings.
- Tree leaves.
- Vegetable food scraps
- Fruit we don’t eat.
- Black and white newspaper.
- Paper
The children enjoy learning how they can take care of their own environment.

School Counselling Program
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the School Counsellor from CatholicCare NT. I am located St Paul’s Catholic Primary School one day a week on Wednesdays and I'm here to provide students with support and emotional well-being. Through the School Counselling Program during a counselling session I conduct Child Centred Play Therapy modality which is a developmentally appropriate, evidenced based, therapeutic intervention for school aged children from 3-11 years old. This approach is based on the belief that "play is therapy" for children, like when adults talk through their problems to solve them, here children play through their problems to solve them.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths, which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring about growth, development and healing in the child. Play therapy helps children develop confidence and positive self-esteem, find healthier ways of communicating and can promote resilience and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their developmental stage.
Here are some of the following referral reasons that your child may be struggling with and that Play Therapy can be an effective therapeutic approach by referring to the School Counselling Program; divorce & separation of parents, anxiety & depression, low self-esteem & self-confidence, social difficulties, angry & aggressive behaviour, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, autism spectrum disorder, attachment issues… and more…
Play therapy is a gentle intervention that provides a safe and secure space for children to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through their first and most natural language; play!
Referrals can be made through completing the form which is avalaible on request at: admin.stpauls@nt.catholic.edu.au
