St Paul's Catholic Primary School Newsletter 2022 Term 2, Week 4
Principal's Message
Good afternoon St Paul’s families,
I write to you from Year 5/6 Camp – a great opportunity to remind me of the all the things we love about our St Paul’s community – resilience, respect and most of all a sense of care and shared responsibility.
The resilience we have seen from the students has reminded me how important it is to give our children room to face challenges and grow from their experiences. They have overcome fears, pushed through tears and been supported by cheers. The encouragement and support the children have shown each other has been a lovely thing to witness.
We often hear bad new stories in the media of a lack of respect in our society. I am proud to say that one every level – respect for self, each other and their surroundings has been evident in every aspect of the camp. It is a thrill to see the values we teach the children every day, shining through.
One of the camp staff told me this morning how much she looks forward to St Paul’s visiting the camp. Her reasons were the respectful beahviour of the children, the care and compassion that his shown to the children and the absence of raised voices from the adults. She also said we have the best parent volunteers ever! I could not agree more. Thank you so much to Darren, Shaun and Toby for their support of our staff and the children.
We are very sad that Mrs Cois could not join us for the camp as we know how much she loves these opportunities to see our students thriving. Please keep Mrs Cois and her family in your prayers as they are facing a very difficult time. They have been experiencing the ill-health of several family members and on Saturday her son, Peter, tragically passed away. She will return to Queensland to be with family and whilst she is away, Mrs Libby Rosewarne will teach our Room 12 students.
My thanks to Miss Marley, Miss Alex, Miss Pip and Miss Emma for showing the great care for our children this week and ensuring that every experience was an opportunity for growth. Thanks also to Mrs Pond in assisting Miss Marley in the planning of such a great experience.
I hope all of the wonderful attributes I have seen over the last few days are evident in your children’s daily lives over the coming weeks.
May the spirit of Jesus fill your hearts,
Ms Megan Evans

Childrens University
This week, Samantha Roccio represented St Paul's Children's University students and attended the Out of School Hours Care service at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Palmerston. Here is an excerpt from her speech:
...I’m here to hype you up about a program called, “Children’s University”! Children’s University is like a magical door, just waiting for you to open it. You can discover new hobbies, share camaraderie amongst schoolmates, compete in fun challenges, go to different places, and graduate at the end of the year, too! At school and at new places, I sometimes get a bit shy when I’m around people I don’t know, but Children’s University has taught me to push my boundaries, to escape my comfort zone! That’s how I am able to talk in front of this massive crowd of students, like, wow! So now, the real question is, are you willing to join? Thank you for listening. I hope you soon decide to join, because it’s a lot of fun!
St Paul's parents be sure to check your Operoo for updates on what opportunities are happening for Children University students.
If your child is in Year 3-6 and would like to participate, please contact the office and pay $20 for your child to receive their passport.

School Counselling Program
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the School Counsellor from CatholicCare NT. I am located St Paul’s Catholic Primary School one day a week on Wednesdays and I'm here to provide students with support and emotional well-being. Through the School Counselling Program during a counselling session I conduct Child Centred Play Therapy modality which is a developmentally appropriate, evidenced based, therapeutic intervention for school aged children from 3-11 years old. This approach is based on the belief that "play is therapy" for children, like when adults talk through their problems to solve them, here children play through their problems to solve them.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths, which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring about growth, development and healing in the child. Play therapy helps children develop confidence and positive self-esteem, find healthier ways of communicating and can promote resilience and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their developmental stage.
Here are some of the following referral reasons that your child may be struggling with and that Play Therapy can be an effective therapeutic approach by referring to the School Counselling Program; divorce & separation of parents, anxiety & depression, low self-esteem & self-confidence, social difficulties, angry & aggressive behaviour, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, autism spectrum disorder, attachment issues… and more…
Play therapy is a gentle intervention that provides a safe and secure space for children to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through their first and most natural language; play!
Referrals can be made through completing the form which is avalaible on request at: admin.stpauls@nt.catholic.edu.au
