St Paul's Catholic Primary School Newsletter 2022 Term 3, Week 4
Principal's Message
Good afternoon St Paul’s families,
I extend a huge thank you everyone for your support of our 2022 Art Show, Care for our Common Home. It was lovely to have so many people there to celebrate this occasion. The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive. I hope the staff and students of St Paul’s should be extremely proud of the work that was put in to make the Art Show the visual spectacular show it was.
Out theme, Laudato Si - Care for our Common Home, challenged staff to be very creative in their sourcing of products and we can proudly say that our purchases of new products were limited. We were able to use many recycled materials and found objects to bring the show to life. We thank all teachers and staff for their tireless work - they certainly went above and beyond what is expected to give children an opportunity to express their creative talents and to make the show the wonderful community event it was.
Our auction was a great success and we thank Nathan Powell for his auctioneer skills and encouragement of bidders. We thank the Van Rensburg family (Ben, ELC and Isla, Transition) for the purchase of the upcycled chair painted by local artist Caitlyn Morrissey. If you were as impressed with Caitlyn’s work as I was, you might want to check out her Facebook page CaitieMDesign. We also thank Caitlyn for much of the work she did behind the scenes with our sponsors and the administrative support of the P&F endeavours. We were also thrilled to see the bidding war for Gen’s Intentions Painting and thrilled for the Sefton’s (Laney, Year 2 and Aila, Year 6) be able to hang this in their home.
We also thank Gen for her work on our new mural. It is a great reminder for all of us to live in a way that sustains our relationships with the earth and each other. It was a real thrill for the children watch Gen work to bring this piece to life.
Thank you to all of the families who contributed to our Family Art Exhibit – this was such an exciting initiative and the entries were very impressive. We hope you enjoyed creating these pieces together.
Thank you also to the P&F for organising the raffle and helping to create a festive atmosphere with the bar and the grazing platters. Many hands make light work and there was a lot of work prior to the evening in obtaining our liquor licence and organising the raffle and the platters. Thank you to everyone for their efforts in selling the tickets and donating goods, time and money towards the evening.
We are extremely grateful to our sponsors of the Art Show:
Gold Sponsors for their very generous support ($750)
Paspaley, Northern Grounds Maintenance
Silver Sponsors ($500)
Above and Beyond Property Management, Bonpinda, CTM and Office National SBA
Bronze Sponsors ($250)
Ricoh
Without the support of our sponsors we would not have been able to make the evening as memorable as it was.
I know I say it often but I am truly so blessed to be part of such a great school community. Thank you everyone for your support.
God bless,
Megan

OSHC News
The children in OSHC have been using their imagination and role-playing skills. The children were very resourceful using sheets to help create a stage area, so they could perform their show in front of their peers.
If you have any spare sheets or blankets at home that you no longer need, we would love and appreciate any donations.
School Counselling Program
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the School Counsellor from CatholicCare NT. I am located St Paul’s Catholic Primary School one day a week on Wednesdays and I'm here to provide students with support and emotional well-being. Through the School Counselling Program during a counselling session I conduct Child Centred Play Therapy modality which is a developmentally appropriate, evidenced based, therapeutic intervention for school aged children from 3-11 years old. This approach is based on the belief that "play is therapy" for children, like when adults talk through their problems to solve them, here children play through their problems to solve them.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths, which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring about growth, development and healing in the child. Play therapy helps children develop confidence and positive self-esteem, find healthier ways of communicating and can promote resilience and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their developmental stage.
Here are some of the following referral reasons that your child may be struggling with and that Play Therapy can be an effective therapeutic approach by referring to the School Counselling Program; divorce & separation of parents, anxiety & depression, low self-esteem & self-confidence, social difficulties, angry & aggressive behaviour, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, autism spectrum disorder, attachment issues… and more…
Play therapy is a gentle intervention that provides a safe and secure space for chil dren to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through their first and most natural language; play!
