St Paul's Catholic Primary School Newsletter 2022 Term 3, Week 8
Principal's Message
Good afternoon St Paul’s families,
As you are aware, Jo Knight and I recently attended the National Catholic Education Council (NCEC) Conference, The Future is Listening. This theme prompted us to think about so much: where will the children we are teaching be in ten years’ time; what will they remember about their time here at St Paul’s; will we have prepared them for the world they will be living in; and will they be equipped to thrive?
We heard from professors, lecturers, school leaders, teachers and students. We were very proud to support our colleagues from the CENT CALT Team (Catholic Aboriginal Leaders Team) who shared how Religious Education is taught through a Culturally Inclusive lens.
Perhaps one of the most outstanding speakers we heard from was Dr Jordan Nguyen, a biomedical engineer, author, TV presenter and technology futurist. He took us into his world or making a difference for people with disabilities who would otherwise be excluded from so many aspects of community life. His documentary, Becoming Superhuman, is an incredible story of empowerment and inclusion – here is a link to the trailer www.drjordannguyen.com
Another aspect of the conference was the STEM MAD Student Showcase – a celebration of student leaning that addresses real-world problems and encourages students to make a difference (MAD) in the world by acting for justice and the common good. This is certainly something that is now on our radar and will be a future opportunity for us, here at St Paul’s.
Social and emotional regulation came through as a recurrent theme from our time at the conference. This is perhaps the biggest challenge for us as the adults in children’s lives. How are we preparing our children to be resilient, to discern responses from reactions and to regulate their emotions? How do we teach them how to control the things they can and know when to get help with the things they cannot? How do we teach children to get through the messiness of their mistakes and to take responsibility when they hurt others? The best thing we can do it let them make mistakes and let them work through this with adult support. Forgiveness and inclusiveness are perhaps the best qualities that Jesus modelled for us. Our challenge is to show this and teach our children to do the same.
May the spirit of Jesus fill your lives over the last few weeks of term.
God bless,
Megan

Dear Library Borrowers,
It is the responsibility of the student who has checked out a library book to find their overdue library book for return. If the student has left the book somewhere at school it is their responsibility to find it and take it to the library and ensure it is checked back in.
Thank you for your cooperation :)
Dear St Paul's families,
This is a friendly reminder that School finishes at 2.35pm and children can be picked up from steps within the school ground or at the express carpark lane, both of which are supervised by a teacher.
Students left waiting at 2.50pm are sent to our Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) located on the school grounds and families will be charged the casual OSHC fee of $30. Our OSHC operates from 2.45pm to 5.30pm on school days.
We also ask that you please do not drop your children at school before 7:45am (when the school gates open) as they are unsupervised beside a busy carpark and road. Should you arrive prior to this time, please wait with your child until the school gates open.
We thank you for your cooperation.

Introducing the *NEW* HubHello Parent Portal & iPay for OSHC & ELC!!!
We have heard your feedback and have found a more convenient way for families (and us) to manage bookings and payments for ELC & OSHC. There will be no additional cost for families to use these services (unless a payment reversal/rejection occurs through iPay which will incur a $50 fee).
OSHC & ELC families will have received two emails this week, one with informtation about the new HubHello and iPay system and the other with their login details. . If you do not receive the login details – then you are either not currently an active family or your email needs to be updated. PLEASE READ THE EMAILS AND ATTACHMENTS CAREFULLY.
We hope this makes life a little easier for families to manage their ELC & OSHC accounts and welcome your feedback.
School Counselling Program
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the School Counsellor from CatholicCare NT. I am located St Paul’s Catholic Primary School one day a week on Wednesdays and I'm here to provide students with support and emotional well-being. Through the School Counselling Program during a counselling session I conduct Child Centred Play Therapy modality which is a developmentally appropriate, evidenced based, therapeutic intervention for school aged children from 3-11 years old. This approach is based on the belief that "play is therapy" for children, like when adults talk through their problems to solve them, here children play through their problems to solve them.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths, which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring about growth, development and healing in the child. Play therapy helps children develop confidence and positive self-esteem, find healthier ways of communicating and can promote resilience and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their developmental stage.
Here are some of the following referral reasons that your child may be struggling with and that Play Therapy can be an effective therapeutic approach by referring to the School Counselling Program; divorce & separation of parents, anxiety & depression, low self-esteem & self-confidence, social difficulties, angry & aggressive behaviour, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, autism spectrum disorder, attachment issues… and more…
Play therapy is a gentle intervention that provides a safe and secure space for chil dren to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through their first and most natural language; play!
Referrals can be made through completing the form which is avalaible on request at: admin.stpauls@nt.catholic.edu.au
