St Paul's Catholic Primary School Newsletter 2022 Term 3, Week 10
Principal's Message
Good afternoon St Paul’s families,
We have come to the end of another term and it is difficult for me to believe that I only have one term left here at St Paul’s. I am sure you were as thrilled as I was when I received the news that Jo Knight will commence as St Paul’s Principal in 2023.
We can now begin a handover process that will ensure a smooth transition from principal to principal and allow for continued strong growth and development here at St Paul’s.
In the last week, we have celebrated some great success here at St Paul’s. Last Friday evening, Miss Alex Ward received the accolade of the ACEL (Australian Council of Educational Leaders) Early Career Teacher Leadership Award. This morning, Miss Alex and Miss Marley presented to the CENT Graduate Teacher Network about their collaborative planning of integrated learning. I have had immediate feedback from the CENT Teaching and Learning Team and other staff about the engagement of the presentation and the success of this model. It is great for us to know that others see the value and strength of ‘walking together.’
Today, Year 3 and 5 parents will receive their child’s NAPLAN results and an email with further explanation about interpreting this data. Please know, that whilst we value our NAPLAN results, we see these as a point in time assessment that can give us some overall trend data of a cohort. We also use various other assessments that help us develop an overall picture of your child’s progress and our three-way conversations held with parents and students this week give us an even broader view of each child’s progress.
For those travelling these holidays – enjoy and stay safe. For those who are here in Darwin, we pray for a few more of those lovely evening breezes we felt this week. For those watching the AFL Grand Final – Go Cats!
May the Spirit of Jesus be present in your lives over the next couple of weeks.

Dear Library Borrowers,
It is the responsibility of the student who has checked out a library book to find their overdue library book for return. If the student has left the book somewhere at school it is their responsibility to find it and take it to the library and ensure it is checked back in.
Thank you for your cooperation :)
Dear St Paul's families,
This is a friendly reminder that school dismissal is at 2.35pm and children can be picked up from steps within the school ground or at the express carpark lane, both of which are supervised by a teacher.
Students left waiting at 2.50pm are sent to our Outside of School Hours Care (OSHC) located on the school grounds and families will be charged the casual OSHC fee of $30. Our OSHC operates from 2.45pm to 5.30pm on school days.
We also ask that you please do not drop your children at school before 7:45am (when the school gates open) as they are unsupervised beside a busy carpark and road. Should you arrive prior to this time, please wait with your child until the school gates open.
We thank you for your cooperation.
ELC & OSHC NEWS
ELC NEWS
Just a few reminders for families that are stated in the ELC parent handbook you received when your child started at the ELC.
All families need to please make sure they are signing their child in & out each day- this is your legal obligation that is related to your Child Care Subsidy. If you need help to sign your child in or out please ask one of the ELC educators and they are more than happy to help you. If you can’t remember your pin, please see Cathy and she can reset your pin.
At all times the Assistant Director must be informed if your child / children will not be attending the ELC either by phoning the school and leaving a message or written notification on ClassDojo or phoning the Centre on 8985 4678.
Now that it is getting hotter, we will be doing lots of water play to help us stay cool in this hot weather. May you please make sure you pack a sun safe hat, at least 2 changes of clothes (including underwear) and a water bottle so we can make sure your child stays hydrated during the day.
Here at the ELC we have a lot of toys and resources, please encourage your child to not bring toys in from home as they can go missing. Educators will encourage children to look after their belongings, by placing them in their bags and lockers as much as possible. Toys from home can also be a source of conflict between children, we highly encourage to keep home toys at home.
The children have been watching the sunflowers and herbs they planted a few weeks ago slowly grow. The children helped transplant some of the sunflowers into cups so they can take them home to look after.
Introducing the *NEW* HubHello Parent Portal & iPay for OSHC & ELC!!!
We have heard your feedback and have found a more convenient way for families (and us) to manage bookings and payments for ELC & OSHC. There will be no additional cost for families to use these services (unless a payment reversal/rejection occurs through iPay which will incur a $50 fee).
OSHC & ELC families will have received two emails this week, one with informtation about the new HubHello and iPay system and the other with their login details. . If you do not receive the login details – then you are either not currently an active family or your email needs to be updated. PLEASE READ THE EMAILS AND ATTACHMENTS CAREFULLY.
We hope this makes life a little easier for families to manage their ELC & OSHC accounts and welcome your feedback.
School Counselling Program
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the School Counsellor from CatholicCare NT. I am located St Paul’s Catholic Primary School one day a week on Wednesdays and I'm here to provide students with support and emotional well-being. Through the School Counselling Program during a counselling session I conduct Child Centred Play Therapy modality which is a developmentally appropriate, evidenced based, therapeutic intervention for school aged children from 3-11 years old. This approach is based on the belief that "play is therapy" for children, like when adults talk through their problems to solve them, here children play through their problems to solve them.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy builds on the child’s inner resources and strengths, which are supported by the therapeutic relationship to bring about growth, development and healing in the child. Play therapy helps children develop confidence and positive self-esteem, find healthier ways of communicating and can promote resilience and coping, in ways that are appropriate to their developmental stage.
Here are some of the following referral reasons that your child may be struggling with and that Play Therapy can be an effective therapeutic approach by referring to the School Counselling Program; divorce & separation of parents, anxiety & depression, low self-esteem & self-confidence, social difficulties, angry & aggressive behaviour, trauma & abuse, grief & loss, autism spectrum disorder, attachment issues… and more…
Play therapy is a gentle intervention that provides a safe and secure space for chil dren to process their thoughts, feelings, and experiences through their first and most natural language; play!
Referrals can be made through completing the form which is avalaible on request at: admin.stpauls@nt.catholic.edu.au
