St Paul's Catholic Primary School Newsletter 2023 Term 1, Week 4
Principal's Message
This Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent as we celebrated Ash Wednesday with a liturgy led beautifully by Mr C’s 1/2 class. As we enter the Lenten season, we take time to reflect on our relationship with God and with others. Lent is a special time when we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and strive to become more like Him in everything we do.
During Lent, we encourage our students to participate in acts of kindness and charity, both at school and in their communities. This could include volunteering, helping others, and practicing good deeds on a daily basis. We also encourage students to spend time in prayer and reflection, as a way to deepen their relationship with God.
Lent is a time of great spiritual growth and reflection, and we hope that our students will take this opportunity to strengthen their faith and demonstrate their love for God and for one another.
At our Opening Mass in Week 2 we inducted our Year 6 Student Leaders of 2023. We are already proud of the work they have been doing and the commitment they have shown. We pray for them to remember the spirit of service that comes with this sense of responsibility.
A big thank you to the P&F who hosted our Welcome Back Disco on Friday evening. It was wonderful to see a large number of our families join us for this event. The students certainly do love a ‘boogie’ on the dance floor. Please feel you are always welcome to attend our school community events, and of course the P&F are very grateful for parents’ donations and support.
Over the last couple of weeks teachers have been working hard to assess our children and find their point of need. This has been in both an academic and wellbeing context. The beginning of the year and return to school can be a tricky time for everyone, especially our children. They find themselves in a different class, with a different teacher and sometimes they are without the peers they had connected with the previous year. The resilience and confidence our students are showing in their learning environment is impressive.
Wishing you a blessed week ahead.
Jo

Swimming Lessons & Carnival 2023
All parents will have received an Operoo notification asking for permission for your child/ren to participate in the Swimming Lessons beginning on Monday February 27th.
You will also have received a notification about the upcoming Swimming Carnival to be held at Parap Swimming Complex on Friday March 17th.
Unfortunately, T-2 students will not be participating in this year’s carnival. As we are not able to use Casuarina Swimming Complex due to the current renovations, we are unable to have the smaller children join in safely.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter – we look forward to having our 2024 Swimming Carnival back at the newly renovated Casuarina complex.

We need your support!
We need your support!
While we understand that Pokémon cards can be a source of entertainment and enjoyment for many children, we have observed some negative impacts on the school environment, including distraction, disruption, and conflict among students. These impacts can negatively affect the learning experience for all students.
We ask for your support in not allowing your children to bring Pokémon cards to school .
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to create a positive and productive learning environment for all of our students. Please contact the school if you have any questions or concerns.
Catholic Care School Counsellor
Next Thursday our school counsellor Sarah Hogg will resume working with our school. Sarah has been our counsellor for a number of years and has a great understanding of our school context and the needs of our students.
School can be both exciting and overwhelming for students. Our school counselling program supports the growth and development of children.
If your child would benefit from having a regular weekly play therapy based session please contact myself or Tahlia for a referral form.
These sessions are free and are conducted in a private confidential way.
